Birmingham Police Cruiser Stolen, Woman Arrested
A woman was taken into custody Wednesday after police say she stole a police cruiser, leading to a lengthy pursuit by law enforcement.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A woman is in custody after police say she stole a Birmingham police cruiser and led law enforcement on a chase through the city. The ordeal began around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in west Birmingham during a traffic stop.
Police say an officer saw a car stopped on Jefferson Avenue and that a man and woman were involved in an altercation inside the car. The woman was handcuffed and placed in the police vehicle. While the officer was questioning the man, the woman reportedly was able to get into the driver's seat of the police cruiser and drive away in it.
With the help of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Alabama State Troopers and the Hoover Police Department, the stolen vehicle was forced to a stop on I-459 just after 10 a.m.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said no injuries were reported in the incident.
