Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:

  1. On Thursday, the Jefferson County Commission approved the allocation of $4 million in ARPA funds to address the World Games’ $14 million deficit. The motion passed with a four-to-one vote; Commissioner Sheila Tyson cast the lone no vote. While the games cost $65 million to produce, revenues — including public and private contributions and ticket sales — totaled only $51 million. (AL.com)
  2. Birmingham Water Works Board Chair Chris Rice has resigned. The resignation followed less than 24 hours after a news report from former employees who said they warned of billing problems ahead of the crisis and claim they were told to change billing dates. According to sources, the resignation came at the urging of the Mayor. (WBRC)
  3. The Community Food Bank of Alabama is celebrating 40 years of service. On Thursday, the food bank held a luncheon, with CEO of Feeding America Claire Babineaux-Fontenot as the guest speaker, at the Harbert Center in downtown Birmingham to celebrate the anniversary. The food bank, which serves 12 counties, has distributed over 16 million meals to those in need. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
