Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:
- A video that went viral on social media appears to show Birmingham Police Department vehicles street racing. According to the BPD, the video was recorded by a "community member" in the back of one of the vehicles who was unrestrained and not in police custody. The department says that Chief Thurmond has initiated an investigation into the incident. (WBRC)
- One man was killed and another was injured in a shooting on Wednesday night. According to police, officers responded to a call just before midnight. Police say that the shooting happened on 34th Street and Avenue M, where a small sedan had wrecked into a parked vehicle. The man who had died was reportedly found shot to death inside the vehicle, while a second man had been shot and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to police, no one is in custody as of Thursday evening. (WBRC)
- A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition at UAB Hospital after a shooting on Wednesday night. According to police, officers responded around 8:25 p.m. to the scene of a car crash near Center Street and 4th Avenue Southwest. Police found the 14-year-old unresponsive in the driver's seat with an apparent gunshot wound. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department. (AL.com)
