Here are the top stories today in Birmingham:
- Officers with Birmingham Fire and Rescue as well as Brighton Fire fought a fire at a motel in Brighton on Monday. According to Birmingham fire, the blaze happened around 1:00 p.m. at the Ace Motel, which is located at 4539 9th Avenue in Brighton. One woman reportedly suffered second-degree burns and was taken to a hospital. One firefighter was also treated for heat exhaustion. (WBRC)
- Birmingham's City Walk is now open, and people are sharing their opinions on the site. The City Walk, which was under construction for six years, opened this week as part of the rollout for the World Games. Kids and adults shared their positive impressions of the location. - A sheriff's deputy was arrested on Sunday on a charge of domestic violence. Jordan McCoy, 27, was booked at 3:16 a.m. and released after posting a $500 bond 12 hours later. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation. The police did not release the circumstances of the charges. (AL.com)
