Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:
- City representatives have responded to community complaints about the state of Birmingham city parks. Reporters from WBRC reached out to the Parks and Recreation Department, as well as the City of Birmingham, asking about when the community could expect grass to be mowed in popular city parks. According to the representative, the past month's heavy rainfall has caused mowing delays; East Lake Park and Avondale Park have already been mowed this month, with other locations to be mowed as quickly as possible. (WBRC)
- University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) students, faculty, and staff came out on Saturday for Into the Streets, the school's biannual volunteer event. This year, over 350 volunteers worked to clean, improve, and educate the Birmingham community. Local organizations that received support include the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, East Lake Farmers Market Senior Bag Program, and UAB Solar House. (WBRC)
- The Birmingham Museum of Art has received three million dollars to finance two leadership positions in the museum. Dora and Sanjay Singh, who have been actively involved in the BMA for over 20 years, donated $1.5 million to fund the Director of Learning and Engagement position. Meanwhile, The Hugh Kaul Foundation awarded a $1.5 million grant for the role of Chief Financial Officer — a position which will be named in honor of the late finance executive and BMA benefactor Corbin Day.
