Death In Birmingham House Fire Ruled A Homicide

A 47-year-old man was found dead after a fire at a Birmingham home Thursday.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A 47-year-old man was found dead after a house fire in Birmingham Thursday. His death has been ruled a homicide by Birmingham police.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to 3753 Todd
Avenue on a house fire, Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham PD said. After extinguishing the fire Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel discovered the victim, Bennie Harris, dead inside the home.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office determined that Harris died from a gunshot wound prior to the fire.
