Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:

  1. A 26-year-old man has been indicted in a drive-by shooting that killed a Birmingham woman and injured another victim in January. The suspect, Charles Eugene Knight Jr., faces a capital murder charge for the death of 40-year-old Michelle Denise Kemp Gilder and an attempted murder charge for the shooting of her husband, Reginald Gilder. Knight is currently in custody at the Jefferson County Jail awaiting trial. (AL.com)
  2. The Birmingham Veterans Affairs Health Care System is hosting a job fair today for a range of clinical and nonclinical positions including registered nurses, food service workers, and housekeeping aides. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Birmingham VA East Clinic on Crestwood Boulevard. Interested applicants should bring copies of their resumes, two forms of government-issued identification, and a copy of their professional license, if applicable. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
  3. Birmingham City Schools has partnered with Alabama Regional Medical Services to offer improved mental health services for students across seven campuses. The program places licensed social workers in each school, and all students will be eligible to receive counseling with a referral from a parent or teacher. The schools will also have telehealth equipment available so that students can still access help even when their designated social worker is at another site. (Alabama's News Leader)
