Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:

  1. Cattle farmers in Jefferson County are battling extreme heat this summer. According to Stevan Parsons, a cattle farmer and mayor of Sylvan Springs, the cattle don't consume as much grass because of the amount of time they spend in the shade. That causes them to not gain enough weight and then they're unable to be sent to market. Unfortunately, that means that beef prices may rise as supply decreases. (WBRC)
  2. Celebrate local art! Bham Now has a list of nine incredible artists you can check out. The list features five musicians and four visual artists. Fans of rap will appreciate 205 Messiah, while shoegaze listeners will appreciate the dreamy sound of BREUIN. Click the link to hear previews of the music and see samples of those visual artists listed. (Bham Now)
  3. Looking for a new property in the Birmingham area? There's a deal for just about everyone right now. A three-bed, one-bath home in Bessemer is going for only $60,000. Another home on Dugan Avenue in Birmingham has four beds and two baths and is listed at $195,000. Topping out the list is a four-bed, three-bath home listed at $557,900 in Helena.
