🌱 Firefighters Tackle Dumpster Fire + $37M Plans For North Birmingham

Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. Birmingham firefighters quickly dealt with a dumpster fire in Industrial Park on Wednesday. Birmingham Fire Rescue Service arrived just after 2 p.m. to find a commercial trash compactor and dumpster on fire. Firefighters were able to prevent it from spreading and no one was hurt.   2. Birmingham man, Terry Pruitt, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for crack cocaine distribution. In September 2021, Pruitt ignored officer commands and drove through a checkpoint, which led to the police pursuing him. Officers found a grocery bag under his body that contained crack cocaine weighing 291 grams. The DEA investigated the case with the Birmingham Police Department. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
  3. Birmingham has plans to spend $37 million to relocate thousands of residents of North Birmingham. A 60-page document outlines how to relocate or improve the living conditions of residents endangered by pollution. It is unclear if the mayor plans to do anything with the document that was drafted between 2019 and 2020. (AL.com, Subscription)
