Flash Flood Warning In Effect Until 5:30 PM In Birmingham: NWS
The National Weather Service extended a flash flood warning in Jefferson and Shelby counties in Alabama until 5:30 p.m.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for south central Jefferson County and northwestern Shelby County until 5:30 p.m.
A thunderstorm has brought 2 to 3 inches of rain to the area in a short time and up to another inch of rain is possible, according to forecasters.
Areas that will likely experience flash flooding include Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Riverchase Galleria and Patton Creek, according to NWS. Any creeks in the area also are likely to experience flooding.

Officials warn that the flash flooding is life-threatening and urge people to avoid driving if possible. Drivers should not attempt to cross flooded roads, authorities said.
