Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:
- A drive-by shooting in Gate City left one man dead and another injured. The shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday in front of the Georgia market neighborhood store. Officer Truman Fitzgerald said the preliminary investigation shows that both men were inside a white sedan when another vehicle pulled up alongside them and opened fire. No suspects are in custody and police are looking for witnesses. (AL.com)
- The Birmingham City Council has approved $150,000 for Create Birmingham, which attracts film, television, and other media productions to the city. The funds are also used for a cultural arts and events calendar, community arts funding, and creative entrepreneurship opportunities around the city. Create Birmingham brought 52 major film productions to Birmingham last year. (WBRC)
- A dog stuck in a Vestavia Hills sewer pipe was rescued on Wednesday. The dog, a Golden Retriever/Chow mix, is named Tiger Lily. The fire department had been on the scene for four hours along with other people attempting to get dog out. Children heard Tiger Lily barking and alerted their mother, the dog's owner. (AL.com)
