Heat Advisory In Effect For Central Alabama

The heat index for Thursday in central Alabama is expected to reach as high as 105 degrees.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Thursday and Friday in central Alabama are probably good days to stay indoors, as the National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a heat advisory Thursday. The heat index in the Birmingham area is expected to top 105 degrees.

The affected areas of the state include Jefferson, Shelby, Bibb and St. Clair counties, among others in central Alabama.

"Thursday will be very hot and humid with a good supply of sunshine," Meteorologist Scott Martin said. "Drier air has worked into the mid-levels of the atmosphere, which will keep nearly everyone in Alabama dry today. Only a slight chance of an isolated shower or two will be possible along and south of a line from Demopolis to Montgomery to Hurtsboro. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 90s."

Martin said to expect more of the same Friday.

"The story will be nearly the same Friday as much of the state will be dry with plenty of sunshine and very hot temperatures," he said. "A few isolated showers may be possible east of I-65 and north of I-20. Highs will be in the upper 90s to right at or just over 100 degrees."
