I-59 Bridge Repairs In Birmingham Start Friday: ALDOT

ALDOT officials are advising drivers to consider using alternate routes as well as adjusting their arrival and departure times.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — If you regularly travel the Interstate 59 bridge, you may want to plan ahead and hit the road a little earlier or find a different route altogether.

The Alabama Department of Transportation will begin concrete bridge deck repairs on the I-59 northbound and southbound bridges over Edwards Lake Road in Jefferson County starting Friday, June 11.

Weather permitting, the roadwork will start at 8 p.m. around the following areas:

  • The outside (right) shoulder of I-59 northbound over Edwards Lake Road (Milepost 137.4).
  • The inside (left) lane of the northbound I-459 ramp to I-59 northbound.
  • The outside (right) lane of I-59 southbound over Edwards Lake Road. (Milepost 137.4).

According to ALDOT, all traffic lanes will be reopened no later than 5 a.m. on Monday, June 14.

Transportation officials are advising drivers to consider using alternate routes and adjusting their arrival and departure times.

Drivers are also asked to pay close attention to work zone speed limits and other work zone signs as well as use extreme caution in the work area.
