Infant Dies From Gunshot Wound In Birmingham

An 11-month-old girl died after being shot during what Birmingham police say was a domestic disturbance Tuesday.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — An 11-month-old girl was shot and killed in Birmingham during what police say was a domestic dispute. The shooting occurred just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at 1800 Carson Road.

“The Birmingham 911 Communication Division received a call of a domestic disturbance and person shot at an apartment complex located at 1800 Carson Road,” Sgt. Rod Mauldin said. “An officer from East Precinct responded to the location and was met by the mother holding an unresponsive infant. It was determined the child sustained a gunshot wound.”

The child, identified as Raylee Allen, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed that the child's mother is a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy.
