🌱 Man Found Dead Monday + New Chelsea School District On Ballot

Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. A 59-year-old man was found dead on Monday night. According to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office, the man was killed by blunt force injuries during an assault. Police say they are investigating the death as a homicide. Police say the man's body was found at 8:48 p.m. in the 200 block of Sixth Place North. (AL.com)
  2. Residents of nearby Chelsea will have the opportunity to vote on whether a new school district will be organized. Mayor Picklesimer says that he believes that the ballot measure, which will be decided by voters on Jul. 12, is the best way to provide better facilities to Chelsea students. The City Council is split on the feasibility of a new school system. Read more at the link. (280 Living)
  3. Illegal dumping is on the rise in Birmingham. A city councilor said that he's fed up with the dumping, which tends to be from construction projects in town. The companies are dumping their waste without paying the fees necessary to take the debris to a landfill. According to Councilor Hunter Williams, the city will be tracking offenders using "trash cameras."(WBRC)
