Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services responded to a car crash on Parkway East Saturday morning. One of the cars erupted into flames during the incident. The crash resulted in the death of one individual; another person was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. (WBRC)
  2. The Alabama Department of Transportation has started on U.S. Highway 31 road work. The department has constructed a barrier wall and guardrail between Bonita Drive and 2nd Avenue South in Birmingham. The construction will result in both sides of the highway closing between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. each day. The construction will continue through Friday, Nov. 18. Birmingham travelers are encouraged to find alternate routes. (WBRC)
  3. The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for Jefferson County. The warning went into effect 9:00 p.m. Sunday and will remain in place through 9:00 a.m. Monday. The freezing temperatures have the potential to kill vulnerable vegetation and burst exposed outdoor piping. (NWS Birmingham)
