- A person died in a car crash in the 2700 block of Ishkoda-Wenonah Road. Birmingham Fire and Rescue say that the car crash involved a fire. The car crash happened in the early afternoon on Sunday. As of Sunday afternoon, there is no word on what caused the fire or the identity of the victim. (WBRC)
- Police Chief Scott Thurmond was officially sworn into office on Friday. Thurmond was the interim chief after the resignation of Patrick Smith in January. He says his priority as chief is first to fight violent crime in Birmingham and second to engage with the community. He also wants to improve employee wellness, recruiting, and retention. - Birmingham City Schools has only registered 75 percent of students, according to officials. The school superintendent Dr. Mark Sullivan is urging parents not to wait until the first day to register students, which could have disastrous effects on scheduling and class sizes.
