Sheriff's Deputies Search For Man Who Escaped Arrest In East Lake

A man who was in custody in a Jefferson County Sheriff's vehicle Wednesday morning managed to escape.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies are searching for a man who escaped arrest Wednesday in East Lake. Joshua Neil Lee, 34, was arrested on warrants for failure to appear in court on theft and drug charges.

Sgt. Joni Money said Lee had been placed in the backseat of a patrol unit when he broke free and ran. He was last seen in the 8000 block of 4th Avenue South.

Lee is a white male who is 5-foot-10-inches tall, weighs approximately 150 pounds, has short brown hair and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and black sweat pants. He should also be wearing handcuffs.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office posted this photo of Lee in case anyone has seen him:

Anyone who knows Lee's whereabouts is asked to call 911.

This incident came less than an hour after Birmingham police had a woman in handcuffs and in a patrol vehicle who also escaped. The woman drove away from the scene in the police cruiser while the arresting officer was questioning another person on the scene.
