Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:

  1. The Sidewalk Film Festival is coming back to Birmingham’s Historic Theatre District from Aug. 22 to Aug. 28. The annual film festival welcomes 15,000 film lovers and gives visitors an opportunity to see more than 250 films across 10 screens. Films like A Walk With Joey and Funny Pages will be on the silver screen during the week. Click the link to learn more about the film festival. (Bham Now)
  2. A lawyer in Birmingham has been accused of trying to smuggle heroin to an inmate at Jefferson County jail. Harrison Jones of H.R. Jones Law has been charged with trafficking heroin and promoting prison contraband. He was booked and released on Sunday after posting $15,000 bond. As of Tuesday evening, Jones was unavailable for comment. (AL.com)
  3. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to a call at 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday to find a body inside a burning house. The abandoned home, located in the 1300 block of Eufaula Avenue, is being investigated for arson. The body was taken to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office to determine the cause of death. Authorities have not been able to determine the age, gender, or race of the victim as of Tuesday evening. (AL.com)
