Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. The cost of a cab ride is going up, and gas prices are to blame. The Birmingham City Council voted yesterday to allow for an increase in taxi rates. According to city leaders, the decision is meant to alleviate costs associated with rising gas prices. This is the first change in cab fare policy since 2012. (WBRC)
  2. One person is in the hospital after a shooting in north Birmingham on Tuesday. According to police, officers were dispatched at 4:18 p.m. to respond to reports of multiple gunshots. The shooting happened at 2001 21st Street North. The man who was injured was taken to UAB Hospital with serious injuries. As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests have been made. (AL.com)
