Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:
- On Sunday, Sep. 4, a train derailed in Birmingham. Officials say the incident happened at Goldwire Street and 16th Avenue SW. The cause of the derailment is currently unclear, but investigations continue. (WBRC)
- One man has been killed and another man was shot at a Birmingham nightclub early on Labor Day morning. The shooting occurred at the Quest Club at 24th Street South and 5th Avenue around 6 a.m. When officers arrived, they found one man had died and they took the second victim to a hospital. (WAFF)
- Two soccer players from the University of Alabama at Birmingham have been honored this week by the Southeastern Conference (SEC) after helping secure a win over BYU and a tie with Utah. Riley Mattingly Parker received her second consecutive SEC Offensive Player of the Week honor, and Gianna Paul received her first SEC Freshman of the Week honor. (Bama Central)
