University Of Alabama At Birmingham: Powered By Girls Conference, For Girls Ages 11-14, Will Take Place On February 19

The event will feature fun activities, guest speakers and self-esteem-building opportunities.

Middle-school-age girls are invited to explore careers in the arts at the third annual Powered by Girls Conference, presented by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s ArtPlay, from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19.

The conference is in tandem with the upcoming performance of Syncopated Ladies dance group, presented by UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center. The event will feature fun activities, guest speakers and self-esteem-building opportunities. Participants will receive a free tote, a goodie bag and discounted tickets to see the Syncopated Ladies performance. This event is open to middle school girls ages 11-14. Guest speakers include UAB Arts in Medicine’s Kimberly Kirklin and Salaam Green, independent artists Sydney Foster and Maya Johnson, and Morgan Smith, best known as the former “Wendy’s girl” for Wendy’s television commercials. They will discuss their careers and lead activities to promote the many career possibilities in the arts.

Event staff and attendees are required to wear masks indoors on campus regardless of vaccination status, as well as maintain proper distancing while on UAB’s campus, including at events.

Safety is UAB’s priority. The pandemic is a fluid situation that UAB is monitoring, in consultation with infectious disease and public health experts; performances will be subject to change based on the latest COVID-19 safety guidelines.
