Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:
- A man who is walking across the country to end violence stopped in Birmingham. Frantz Beasly, a CEO and founder of Respect our Daughter, began walking across the country on May 16 in Los Angeles and will conclude the walk at the Statue of Liberty in New York City. What began as a campaign to stop violence against women in the state of Arizona led by formerly incarcerated men and women has grown to a national organization dedicated to ending violence at large. Beasly stopped at One Place Family Justice Center in Birmingham to work with survivors, lawmakers, city officials, and families. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
- The Birmingham City Council voted on Tuesday to expand renewal plans in Arlington-West End and Downtown. According to the council's vote, the plan has expanded to include 27 acres to the northwest of the original plan, including the former Larkway Gardens Apartments. The boundaries of the Downtown West plan have not been changed, but have been adjusted to bring focus to the former Adams Inn at 300 Tenth Street North. (Birmingham Watch)
- This is an adventure of prehistoric proportions. Jurassic Quest is returning to the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex on Aug. 19, 20, and 21. The dinosaur experience gives kids and families the opportunity to get up close and personal with life-size dinosaur replicas such as the 50-foot-long megalodon.
