Falling on the last Monday of May each year, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving in the military. It's a federal holiday that many people get off from work, resulting in a three-day weekend.
This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27, and for many, this holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. We've rounded up some things to do Memorial Day Weekend in and around Birmingham. Please note: We recommend calling ahead to confirm the hours and access before you head out the door.

Jump into Wellness Memorial Ride
When: Saturday, May 25 - 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: Heart of Dixie Harley-Davidson, 333 Cahaba Valley Parkway North

What: Pay respect to fallen veterans on this 1-hour ride to the Alabama National Cemetery. Upon completion at the Alabama National Cemetery, participants will ride to The Beer Hog for pizza, drinks and door prizes. Purchase tickets on Eventbrite for $20 a rider, $10 a vehicle.
The 13th Annual Salsa Showdown
When: Saturday, May 25 2024- 2-6 p.m.
Where: Cahaba Brewing Company, 4425 3rd Ave S
Birmingham, AL 35222
What: Spice up your Saturday with Birmingham’s 13th Annual Salsa Showdown, hosted by Sidewalk Film Center + Cinema. This fundraising competition will determine who offers the best salsa, guacamole, queso and specialty dip. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
Birmingham-Area KA Alumni Chapter Meeting
When: Saturday, May 25 - 5-7 p.m.
Where: Good People Brewing Company, 114 14th Street South

What: Become a founding member of a new KA alumni chapter in the Birmingham area. Annual Alumni Chapter dues are $100.
