  1. The Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run is taking place this weekend. The 5k is intended to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation; participants, either as individuals or teams, are invited to raise additional money for the foundation by asking for donations in connection with the race. Racers can dress up in holiday costumes and either walk or run during the event, which is taking place this Saturday at Veterans Park on Valleydale Road in Hoover beginning at 7:30 a.m. More details about the race can be found here. (Hoover Sun)
  2. Work has officially begun on Hoover's Parks and Public Spaces Comprehensive Plan. This public/private partnership will help the City of Hoover to catalog all of its recreational amenities for the purposes of marketing the City. A kickoff reception was held on Tuesday night. Photos from the event are available for viewing at the link. (City of Hoover)
  3. The Hoover City Schools District (HCS) received therapeutic adaptive bikes for students with special needs. Alabama Senator Dan Roberts provided the nonprofit Birmingham AMBUCS a grant to help get adaptive bikes for schools in his district; of that money, $5,000 went to HCS. The district has bikes at Trace Crossings Elementary, Green Valley Elementary, Gwin Elementary, Brock’s Gap Intermediate, Deer Valley Elementary, Rocky Ridge Elementary, South Shades Crest Elementary, Berry Middle, Bumpus Middle, Spain Park High Schools, and one is on the way for Hoover High School. The link has a video about why the bikes are beneficial to students. (Hoover City Schools)
