Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:

  1. A Hoover cooking class has received such renown that it will be featured on a National TV show. Cooking With Culture, hosted by Vecchia Pizzeria, will be featured on Simply Southern TV. Led by Chef Benard Tamburello, Cooking With Culture helps participants easily learn how to make their favorite foods as well as learn about them. (Over The Mountain Journal)
  2. The Hoover School Board has tabled construction on the new arts center. The delay comes as construction costs rise with inflation. According to estimates from Lathan Associates and Volkert Inc., the estimated construction cost was $9.7 million last year. That number has ballooned to as much as $18.3 million from construction bids this year. Superintendent Dee Fowler says that he will be working to negotiate a lower price with a different bidder for the project. (Hoover Sun)
  3. A new principal at Spain Park High School has been selected. The Hoover School Board voted on Monday to approve Amanda Esslinger as the new principal at the high school. Esslinger spent 16 years as a full-time educator and 10 years as an administrator. She will begin her new duties on Jul. 1. (Hoover Sun)
