Hoover council approves up to $2 million for 27 new police vehicles (hooversun.com) — Hoover’s City Council just approved up to $2 million for 27 new police vehicles, aiming to replace aging patrol cars and bolster public safety. Council members also addressed Fire Station No. 1 costs, Valleydale Road widening, alcohol licenses in Stadium Trace Village, a Hale Springs nature preserve, and extended a moratorium on new CBD and vape shops.

Hoover City Council narrowly approves zoning change in 4-3 split (shelbycountyreporter.com) — Hoover residents should know the City Council narrowly approved a zoning map change in a 4-3 vote, with President John Lyda Middlebrooks casting the deciding vote. The council also advanced Valleydale Road widening agreements and filled key seats on Hoover’s planning, transit, tourism, parks, and recreation boards that help shape daily life in the city.
3. Three Alabama schools get $10,000 in national STEM contest (al.com) — Hoover High students have earned $10,000 in Samsung technology to advance their design of a wheelchair-mounted lifting device aimed at improving mobility for people with disabilities. They’re one of three Alabama schools among 500 national semifinalists in Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow STEM competition, with a chance at much larger prizes in 2026.
4. Las Vegas Raiders call up former Auburn receiver (al.com) — A former Hoover High football standout, Shedrick Jackson, has been signed to the Las Vegas Raiders’ 53-man roster for the first time in his NFL career. Jackson, who helped Hoover win Class 7A titles in 2016 and 2017, now has a chance to build on his earlier 25-yard touchdown catch as Las Vegas finishes its season.
