Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:
- A back-to-school supply giveaway is coming to town on Aug. 6. The Cupcake McKinney School Supply Giveaway will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It's located at the Riverchase Galleria Mall. Click the link to learn more. (Montgomery Advertiser)
- According to Congress members from Mobile, Hoover, Huntsville, and other locations, the electric grid is at risk. An open letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) brought light to labor shortages and steel shortages which the representatives say have increased delivery times for grid equipment. This, in conjunction with an escalated hurricane season, according to the representatives, could cause major power outages across Alabama. (Yellowhammer News)
- Wages in the Birmingham-Hoover metro have increased far faster than inflation over the past few years, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Residents have earned on average $1,083 per week before taxes as of May. That number represents a 23 percent increase over Jan. 2019. Those increases are commensurate with inflation, with a four percent increase in the consumer price index matching a four percent increase for earnings in the metro. (AL.com)
