  2. Hoover city officials are asking the state supreme court to overturn a temporary restraining order from a judge in Jefferson County that is preventing the City of Hoover from annexing property in the Indian Ford Fire District. The restraining order gives the City of Helena time to organize an election for residents in the area to decide whether or not to become part of the Helena city limits. The Hoover City Council, in an attempt to annex the area first, scheduled a vote for Jul. 17 to begin the annexation process, prompting Helena city officials to go to court to block their efforts. Hoover has been ordered by a judge to stop its annexation efforts in the fire district until Jul. 28. (Hoover Sun)

A Hoover resident was recently named Professional of the Year at the state's annual conference for the Association of People Supporting Employment First, an organization that advocates for employment and career opportunities for disabled people. Lori Kroeger recently retired from the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services where she worked as a senior vocational evaluator. During her 26 years of service, she developed and implemented a vocational program for people with low vision and blindness, which earned accolades and requests for her evaluation services from across the state.
