Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:

  1. Both locations of Dreamcakes will be closed after 13 years of business. According to the business's post on Facebook, the business was unable to reach an agreement with the landlord on a lease renewal. The lease, which is for the Homewood building where the main production bakery is located, will close Aug. 13. Because the Homewood building supplies the Dreamcake Cafe in Hoover, the Hoover location will also be closed on Aug. 13. (AL.com)
  2. The 75th Annual Alabama Broadcasters Association Conference will take place on Aug. 12 and Aug. 13 in Hoover. The organization is dedicated to protecting and enhancing broadcasting, and has existed for more than 65 years in Alabama. A featured speaker at the event is Chris Cheetham-West, an author, speaker, and marketing executive. Click the link to learn more about the event. (The Good Men Project)
  3. The University of Alabama's Center for Business and Economic Research released the latest Alabama Business Confidence Index. The index shows a troubling sign: business leaders in Alabama have a negative outlook for the economy for the first time in eight years. Although their overall outlook is negative for the economy, local business owners are still positive about their ability to sell goods and hire employees. (The Business Journals)
