  1. There are a few open houses happening soon around Hoover and Birmingham for you to check out. Every open house on the list at the link takes place on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 2:00 p.m., so choose your destination wisely. One home at 220 South Oak Drive is listed for $300,000. There is another down the street at 260 South Oak Drive that is also listed for $300,000. (Hoover Patch)
  2. An eighth grader at Simmons Middle School won the 2022 Raytheon Technology MathCounts National Competition. The Hoover Board of Education recognized Allan Yuan for his success on Tuesday night. The competition gave kids an opportunity to compete against each other in speed math for a $20,000 scholarship. Yuan also won a trip to U.S. Space Camp. He was one of many students recognized for extracurricular achievement at the school board meeting. (Hoover Sun)
  3. A Hoover native and former Alabama baseball player hit a home run into the corn at the Field of Dreams on Tuesday night. Peyton Wilson, a second baseman who played for Alabama in the SEC tournament in 2021, was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the second round of the 2021 MLB draft. Now playing center field for the Quad Cities River Bandits, a High-A Royals Affiliate team, Wilson hit the home run in the third inning of the first ever minor-league baseball game played at the Field of Dreams.
