Fugitive Still At Large A Year After Death Of 2 Kids In Hoover

A man wanted for murder in the death of two children in Hoover a year ago is still at large, Hoover police say.

HOOVER, AL — A year has passed since the deaths of 11-year-old Emrhye Prude and 8-year-old Serris Prude, and the man charged with murder in their deaths remains free. Thursday, the parents of the deceased children spoke in a news conference about their desire to see the fugitive brought to justice.

The man charged with the children's murders is 46-year-old Christopher Shane Anagnos. Anagnos was driving a GMC truck on Highway 31 in front of Hoover Square Sept. 10, 2020, when he struck the Prude family' Honda Fit from behind. The Honda was then propelled into the back of a Lexus, which in turn hit a Ford truck from behind.

"Every single day he's out there is an insult to my children," the children's father, Emanuel Prude, said of Anagnos. "I want to make his world smaller and more uncomfortable to the point he makes a mistake and is caught and brought to justice."

Police say they continue to search for Anagnos, who is rumored to have left the state.

"Our Traffic Homicide investigators obtained murder warrants against the defendant in this case in November 2020," the Hoover PD Chief Nick Derzis said in a statement about the case. "We immediately requested the assistance of the United States Marshals Service to apprehended the defendant. They have spent the past 10 months tracking leads in an effort to serve these warrants. I can assure you that the Hoover Police Department has done and will continue to do everything it can do to hold this defendant accountable."
