🌱 Gas Prices Affect Schools + Hoover Students Awarded Scholarships

Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:
- As school districts are impacted by rising gas prices, your children's education could also be affected. This year in February, the Jefferson County School District spent $194,000 on gas; last year they spent $96,000 on gas in Feb. 2021. In Hoover, the school district paid spent $61,290.21 on gas in the month of February, compared to the $34,124.39 they spent at the same time in 2021. (WBRC)
- The Hoover Police Department Motor Scouts got some last-minute training in for the upcoming Southeastern Conference baseball tournament. In preparation for next week, the officers were fine-tuning and preparing for the dangerous job. According to Hoover PD, the Motor Scout Officers are responsible for escorting the team buses from their hotels to the Hoover Met, and then back again. The officers ensure their safe arrival while they are in Birmingham. (Hoover PD)
- Four students were awarded college scholarships by The Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce. On Thursday, the chamber gave out a $5,000 scholarship to Hoover High School senior Emilee Turner, in honor of Bill and Gail Powell. In addition, three students received $4,000 scholarships — Hoover High’s Chinonye Mbanugo, Homewood High’s Peyton Murrill, and Spain Park High’s Isabella Olvera. Congratulations to the recipients!
