Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:
- Which universities are top players in Alabama being recruited to? Among Hoover players, offensive tackle Ethan Hubbard has committed to the Duke Blue Devils squad. Linebacker Bradley Shaw, a three-star recruit in the class of 2024, has still not committed to a school. - The WMU Foundation teamed up with several Birmingham-area churches, including Shades Crest Baptists in Hoover, to provide 168 backpacks for students in town. The backpacks were filled with school supplies, primarily for a Magic City Back to School Bash on Aug. 7. The event also gave free food and entertainment to families who attended. Anyone interested in helping plan next year's Back to School Bash is encouraged to contact organizer Lamar Benefield. (Alabama Baptist)
- Public hearings are being planned for the proposed fiscal year 2023 Hoover City Schools budget. The 2022 budget included expenditures of $229 million and revenues of $221 million. Hearings will be held on Sep. 8 at noon and Sep. 13 at 4:30 p.m. There, officials will present the 2023 budget proposal and discuss planned spending projects for the 2023 fiscal year. (Hoover Sun)
