- A Hoover High teacher was named the 2023 Conservation Educator of the Year in Alabama. Janet Ort, an environmental science teacher at Hoover High School, received the prestigious designation at the Alabama Wildlife Federation Governor’s Conservation Achievement Awards banquet earlier this month. The annual award is given to a teacher who has made great contributions to the conservation of Alabama’s wildlife and related natural resources. (Hoover Sun)
- This week, Tina Bolt, the City of Hoover’s chief financial officer and treasurer, informed the Hoover City Council she plans to retire. Bolt has held the position for three years, delaying retirement due to different projects she had been managing. Her retirement will be effective Oct. 1. (Hoover Sun)
- Ice cream giant Baskin Robbins is set to open its third stand-alone location in the state in Hoover, opening on Sept. 3. To celebrate the occasion, the creamery will be hosting a Grand Opening on Sep. 16, featuring a ribbon cutting, giveaways, entertainment, prizes, and more. Baskin Robbins will also be selling ice cream that day for 31 cents a scoop from 12:00-4:00 p.m. (Bham Now)
