🌱 Hoover Makes List For Most Black-Owned Businesses + Church Shooting

Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:

  2. Birmingham-Hoover has made the list of cities with the most Black-Owned businesses. Coming in at No. 20 on the list, 3.5 percent (693) of firms in the area are owned by Black residents, according to the list which uses data from the U.S. Census Bureau. In addition, the Black population share is 30.1 percent (327,271) and the median household income is $40,535 (vs. $59,185 for all races). (24/7 Wall St.)
  3. An 84-year-old Hoover woman was one of three victims who died from a shooting at an Alabama church on Thursday. The victim was wounded in the shooting at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in the nearby Birmingham suburb of Vestavia Hills and died on Friday at an area hospital. In a statement released by police on Friday, the woman's family has asked for her name not to be released. The other two victims were Walter Rainey, an 84-year-old man from Irondale, and Sarah Yeager, a 75-year-old woman from Pelham. (CBS News)

  • Last week, four new Conex boxes were added to the Hoover Fire Training Center, located at station 6. These four boxes are in addition to the five that are already in place at the multi-use training facility. These boxes are used for live fire training, hose advancement, search and rescue, ground ladders, technical rescue training, and rapid intervention training. (Hoover Fire Department via Facebook)
