  1. The Hoover Public Library is kicking off its "Food for Fines" to combat hunger in the city. The initiative aims to address the issue of food insecurity in the city by collecting 10,000 canned, non-perishable items throughout September that will be donated to different food banks, including Green Valley Baptist Church and the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama. For every donated item, the library will waive $1 in that patron’s fines for up to $10. Hoover City Schools has partnered with HPL for the first time to increase donations, with seven buildings being used to collect items. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
  2. Returning season ticket holders can purchase tickets for the 2022-23 Hoover Library Theatre season beginning today, Aug. 23! Full-season tickets for new people will be available to purchase beginning on Thursday, Aug. 25 and individual shows go on sale on Friday, Aug. 26. According to Matina Johnson, fine arts director for the library, this year’s lineup includes at least three shows that really are “too big” for the 250-seat venue. Tickets can be purchased at the Hoover Library Theatre website. (Hoover Sun)
  3. Hoover residents can get free cake to celebrate Nothing Bundt Cake's 25th birthday. On Sep. 1, the first 250 people at each of the bakery's locations — including in Hoover and nearby Birmingham — will receive free Confetti Bundtlets, or mini bundt cakes, according to a publicist. No purchase is necessary. The Hoover bakery is located at 3780 Riverchase Village, Suite 600.
