🌱 Hoover Schools Proposes $231M Budget + Firefighter Challenge

  1. On Thursday, Hoover school officials proposed spending $231 million in fiscal year 2024, which is 3 percent less than the original 2023 budget of $238 million approved last year. The Hoover Board of Education plans to hold a second public hearing regarding the 2024 budget on Sep. 12 at 4:30 p.m. and is expected to vote on the budget at its action meeting at 5:30 p.m. following the hearing.   2. The Hoover Fire Department is presenting the U.S. National Firefighter Challenge this week at the Hoover Met for its 2023 championship. The annual competition showcases firefighters' physical fitness and ability, with more than one hundred affiliated competitions across the country. Competitors must wear full firefighter gear and breathing equipment, and complete various challenges. (Bham Now)
  3. Hoover High School Senior linebacker Bradley Shaw was added to the list for the prestigious 2023 High School Butkus Award. The designation features 51 linebackers—referencing NFL legend Dick Butkus's No. 51 jersey—from 19 states, with semifinalists and finalists announced later in the season. Shaw is the only uncommitted senior in the composite rankings of the top seniors in the state. (AL.com)
