Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:
- A part-time pastor at the Hoover First United Methodist Church spoke about the practice of punishing children with hot sauce. According to the pastor, children two years old and younger had been punished with hot sauce "for years, if not decades." The pastor reassured attendees at the Golden Corral event that "it will never be done again." Mothers of children who attended the day school said that they still feel angry and betrayed because of the practice. (WRBL)
- A junior linebacker from Hoover is turning heads with his football skills. Bradley Shaw is receiving offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia, and a half-dozen others. Hoover football coach Wade Waldrop has been heard talking up the young star athlete. "He can play downhill, but literally he can go sideline-to-sideline," he said at the Hustle Up 7-on-7 tournament over the weekend. Click the link to see Shaw and other talents at work on the field. (Tuscaloosa Magazine)
- Dozens of arrests were made by the Department of Homeland Security at the World Games. Crimes included commercial sex buyers, human trafficking, felony drug charges, and felony impersonation of a police officer. Major sporting events, especially ones of international renown, tend to attract crimes like human trafficking and drug trade. Click the link to see a full list. (WTVY)
