Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:
- On Thursday, five adults with Down syndrome were awarded the Jake Pratt Scholarship. A few months ago, UPS teamed up with Down Syndrome Alabama to award five scholarships to other adults with Down syndrome seeking higher education in Jake's name, who earned a job with UPS and has been working with the company since late 2020. Congratulations to the Jake Pratt scholarship recipients Grace Davis, Lindsey Davis, Chandler Herrero, Jackson Ray, and Hannah Baker! (WVTM13 Birmingham)
- Are you in the market for a new home? If so, you won't want to miss these three open houses coming up in the Hoover area. Patch and Redfin have teamed up to put together this list so you can get a feel for what's available prior to committing. (Patch)
- A reverend from Hoover was among a group of Southside Birmingham clergy who met in April and decided to sign a letter of support for transgender children. More than 80 signatures have been collected from clergy and church staff around Alabama, and Rev. Dr. Jose Fernandez, of Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles in Hoover, is one of them. On Sunday, puberty blockers and hormones, which are now available for transgender youth in Alabama, will become illegal unless a federal judge blocks a new law. (Al.com)
