The Jefferson State Speech and Debate Team competed in the Southern Forensics Championship virtual tournament on January 29-30.

Team members Brook McMillan, Jacob Davidson, Blake Denney and Emmy Rains competed against over 200 students from 34 colleges and universities, representing 12 states.
Ruth Dismukes, Cameron Hodge, Emma Catanese, Jacob Goldberg, Adrienne Lunceford, Heaven Sheppard and Kylie Jordan served as research assistants and judges for the event.

After competing in six preliminary rounds of IPDA debate on Saturday, junior varsity debater Jacob Davidson made it into octofinals on Sunday, as did novice debater Blake Denney. In addition, Emmy Rains was a quarterfinalist in novice debate, competing in only her second tournament.
The Jefferson State Debate team will compete in another virtual tournament on February 5-6, hosted by Lee College.
