The Jefferson State Debate Team won 1st Place Overall Community College and 1st Place Community College in IPDA debate in the Mendoza Debates virtual tournament on February 5-6, hosted by Lee College.

Team members Brook McMillan, Jacob Davidson, Jacob Goldberg, Kylie Jordan, Cameron Hodge and Emmy Rains competed in IPDA Debate, while Blake Denney, Ruth Dismukes, Emma Catanese, Adrienne Lunceford and Heaven Sheppard served as research assistants and judges for the event.

After competing in six preliminary debate rounds, Brook McMillan advanced to octofinals in the novice division, and Jacob Davidson, competing in the junior varsity division, advanced to quarterfinals. Emmy Rains made it all the way to the final round in the novice division and placed 2nd in the entire tournament. In addition, Rains was ranked as the 3rd highest novice debate speaker, while Davidson was ranked the 2nd highest speaker in junior varsity.
