  1. The Krispy Kreme on Highway 280 in Hoover has officially closed. On Monday evening, someone from the Bham Now staff spotted construction paper covering the windows. The next day, the Birmingham Business Journal confirmed that the location has officially closed, following a statement from a company spokesman. Donut fans will have to head to one of the Birmingham metro-area locations instead. (Bham Now)
  2. Josephine Prado, Ph.D., assistant professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, received a grant of $2.9 million from the Office of English Language Acquisition within the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will help provide teachers of grades K-12 with the resources they need to educate a growing multilingual population. The "EMPOWER" grant will be used for five years to recruit 20 teachers in three separate cohorts. (UAB.edu)
  3. A group of Hoover City Schools District staff who retired last school year were recognized during the most recent Hoover Board of Education meeting. Joined by their families and loved ones, 10 retirees were honored and received a special gift. In the 2021-2022 school year, a total of 63 staff retired, with a combined 1,509 years of service to the district. (Hoover City Schools via Facebook)
