Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:

  1. Hoover police are seeing fewer firearm thefts with its 'Lock it or Lose it' campaign. At around 9:00 p.m. each night, the Hoover Police Department posts on its Facebook page, reminding drivers to lock their car doors. According to Captain Keith Czeskleba, the best place to store your gun is inside, but if you can’t, keep it hidden and protected in your car. (WBRC)
  2. Two Hoover residents and Realtors are putting on a Fur the Love Gala and Silent Auction for Hand in Paw. On Saturday, the gala dinner and silent auction will benefit the Hand in Paw nonprofit in Birmingham that seeks to improve human health and well-being through animal-assisted therapy. The event, organized by Ashley Lemley and Gina Musser, will go from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hand in Paw’s facility at 617 38th St. S. in Birmingham. (Hoover Sun)
  3. On Thursday, the Hoover Service Club gave out $28,000 worth of scholarships and awards. 10 seniors from Hoover and Spain Park high schools received scholarships and six middle school students were honored for exemplary academic performance and citizenship. Two awards were also given out to a senior from each high school who understands the importance of serving their community. Congratulations to all the winners! (Hoover Sun)
