Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:

  1. Yesterday, the Hoover Public Library hosted the 2022 Miss Hoover and Miss Hoover Outstanding Teen Pageants at the Library Theatre. Money made at the event will go towards cash scholarships worth $6,500 for winners and alternates. The event sold out on Sunday afternoon. (Hoover Public Library & Hoover Foundation)
  2. On Friday, Aug. 19, Hoover residents John Thompson and his son Cade stopped by City Hall to donate 50 sensory bags, which are used to help calm down a situation for an individual with autism or other sensory needs, for Hoover Police Officers. Their civic group, Birmingham Civitan Club, put together the bags that contain a fidget spinner, play-doh, a mini magna-doodle, sunglasses, bubbles, fruit gummies, and a communication card.   3. Birmingham's Carver Theatre, just 10 minutes away from Hoover, is lighting up again for the Sidewalk Film Festival after three years of painstaking renovation and restoration. This year’s Sidewalk Film Festival kicks off today (Aug. 22) and will run through Sunday, Aug. 28. Later this month, the Taste of 4th Avenue Jazz Festival will take place on the street in front of the theater. (Birmingham Times)
