  1. The Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is launching a new tool to improve public safety. The tool is a text alert system intended to increase tip collection for active investigations. The system is already in use for severe weather notifications. To opt into the new text alert system, simply text "UNSOLVED" to 888777. (WBRC)
  2. Some Hoover residents have reported sewer smell concerns. The city and Jefferson County allegedly fixed the issue years ago using filters. The project cost the county $43 million. The new complaints are from the Data Drive, Highway 31, Highway 151, and Shades Crest areas. (WBRC)
  3. The Alabama Department of Public Health is concerned that holiday gatherings will worsen the deadly flu season. Hoover residents are advised to reconsider family gatherings. Anyone experiencing symptoms is asked to remain at home, and people are encouraged to limit contact with individuals who might be at severe risk. Local doctors report the flu is a bigger problem than COVID-19 right now. (WVTM)
