1. Hoover City Council officially approves budget for 2026 fiscal year (shelbycountyreporter.com) — Hoover’s new 2026 city budget sets total projected spending at about $206 million, with major investments in police, fire, paramedics, and the municipal court. City employees will get a 1% cost-of-living raise, while Hoover maintains more than $89 million in reserves and expects to finish the fiscal year with a modest surplus.
   

2. AmFirst credit union awards $60,000 in grants (hooversun.com) — Hoover residents should know the Hoover Public Library just received a $5,000 grant from AmFirst to support its summer feeding program, helping local families in need. The credit union awarded more than $60,000 total to 14 nonprofits across Alabama, backing everything from education and workforce training to food assistance and veterans’ services.
   

3. Two overnight fires in Shelby County, displacing residents but leaving no injuries (abc3340.com) — An early-morning fire at the Renaissance Galleria Apartments in Hoover damaged eight units and displaced 12 residents, though thankfully no injuries were reported. Hoover firefighters, along with the American Red Cross, helped residents with temporary housing and essentials. Another unrelated overnight fire in Montevallo also drew multiple departments as investigators in both cities work to determine the causes.
   

4. Remy Fund awards $90,500 for pets, animal services in 2025 (hooversun.com) — A charitable fund created by Hoover resident Ken Jackson awarded $90,500 in 2025 to animal welfare groups across Jefferson, Shelby and nearby counties, supporting spay/neuter, rescue, and therapy programs. The Remy Fund has now granted more than $739,000 since 2011, and its 2026 grant cycle opens March 16 for nonprofits seeking support.
   

5. Mayor's Minute: January 2026 (villagelivingonline.com) — Hoover’s public library tops Jefferson County with over one million annual checkouts, setting the pace that Mountain Brook’s O’Neal Library is eager to match. The mayor highlights how O’Neal’s busy daily traffic, winter programs, and big February book sale keep it competitive with Hoover and Birmingham while serving as a community hub.
