Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:

  1. You've got one last chance to say goodbye. Bham Now has a list of five businesses in the Birmingham-Hoover metro that are closing. Taproot Cafe in Hoover, a place to grab paninis, salads, toasts, and smoothies, is being closed after NFL linebacker Reggie Torbor and his wife decided to spend more time with family. Prior to the decision to close, they had been looking for a partner to help with daily operations. See the other four businesses that are shutting down at the link. (Bham Now)
  2. There are some fresh listings for you to check out. There's a home for just about any price range with these new offers. One home on Berwick Drive is listed for $384,900 with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Another home with four bedrooms and five bathrooms is listed at $984,547. Click the link to see all five homes on the list. (Hoover Patch)
  3. Beginning this year, parents will be required to opt-in for school counseling and mental health services for kids under 14. According to Hoover City Schools Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Terry Lamar, this won't change anything about the way services are provided. It is unclear why the State of Alabama has adopted the new policy, but parents are allowed to opt in or out of the services at any time. (WSFA)
