- Over the weekend, severe weather caused power outages and downed trees throughout the state. Thunderstorms and strong winds caused many trees and power lines to come down—on Sunday, Alabama Power reported 34,134 customers were without power, with more than 2,000 customers without power in Hoover. - On Sunday, USA Baseball announced that Hoover's Will Adams was one of 20 players named to the USA Baseball 2023 15U National Team. This is the second straight year and third out of the last four in which a Hoover High School baseball player has played for a USA Baseball squad. Adams and the rest of the 15U National Team will begin training in early Sept. ahead of traveling to the Dominican Republic for an international competition with the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico Sep. 13-18. - On Monday, Aqua-Tots Swim Schools, the largest international swim school franchise, announced its newest location will open in Hoover in mid-September. Until now, the community has lacked a dedicated swim school that offers year-round lessons—the new state-of-the-art, 6,000-square-foot indoor swim facility will serve families throughout Jefferson and Shelby counties, providing them with year-round access to high-quality swim lessons.
