Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:
- Bomb technicians deemed a suspicious package left outside of a fitness center in Hoover was not a threat — it was Tupperware. According to Capt. Keith Czeskleba, Hoover police and firefighters were called on Thursday to Crunch Fitness on U.S. 31 at about 11:45 a.m. on a report of a suspicious package; however, they learned a disgruntled customer had left a brown box just outside the store. At this time, it's unclear if any criminal charges could be filed. (AL.com)
- In a nearby Birmingham suburb, a shooting at a church killed two people and injured one. The shooting took place in Vestavia Hills on Thursday during St. Stephen's Episcopal Church's Boomers Potluck, according to a written statement by Rev. John Burruss. The unidentified suspect is in custody and the surviving victim is being treated for injuries at a hospital. (CNN)
- On Monday, the city of Hoover is hosting a sendoff reception for Miss Hoover 2022 Jordan Carraway. 21-year-old Carraway, an Auburn University student from Daphne, is preparing to head to the Miss Alabama 2022 competition in Homewood. The reception begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Hoover City Hall third-floor lobby. (Hoover Sun)
